Club updates
We have welcomed some newcomers to the club in January and now have some wireless scoring boxes to keep people sharp on the training piste.
Competition news

Our first team turn out of the year was on the 1st of February at the South West BYC’s qualifier held at Millfield. For some it was their first ever foray into fighting in public and the support shown by all the fencers for their team mates was fabulous.
Some cracking results, with medals, smiles, some mahoosive trophies and lots of invitations to compete at the British Youth Championships in May. There were two very proud coaches at the end of the day!
Some of our fencers are also pentathletes, and Jemima C has blasted into first place in the U17 ranking competition already this year, which looks good for the internationals later on this summer.

Ignore the rain and focus on fencing fit and fencing kit!

When the weather is rubbish it’s easy to hunker down, but time at home is often a great opportunity to squeeze in some S and C, footwork exercises and core strength.
Here are a few ideas to get you started;

Coordination exercises
Blade work at home
And for those that don’t know how to dismantle an epee tip to fix it have a look here

Summer Training Camps
Looking ahead, now is the time to book those fencing summer camps. Going to one abroad is not only a chance for a look around somewhere new but a great chance to make friends in the wider fencing world and experience different fighting styles.
One we highly recommend from a quality as well as a fun point of view, is the Bocholt International Fencing Camp in Germany. Sandra is coaching there so there will be a friendly face! Get booked in early because it is a well established and well known event with kids coming from lots of different countries, it really is international.
For something UK based there are some in London at Salle Paul or Cornwall in Truro.
